Once when we visited my husband's aunt she had prepared these crispy vadais. Since then we have been thinking of preparing vazhaipoo vadai. But we never could find it in reliance or hypercity or spar in Bangalore. And being lazy to go to the market, we almost forgot about it. This weekend when we went shopping in KL, we had been to a local tamil market and we found all indian vegetables there. And when we saw vazhai poo, though the whole thing is too much for us, we will buy it. So today I prepared vazhaipoo vadai and later will post some other recipes with it.
Ingredient
Vazhaipoo - 1
Gram Dal - 1 cup
Toor Dal - 1/2 cup
Full Urad Dal - 1 tbsp
Red Chili - 10
Green Chili - 2
Asafoetida - a pinch
Curry Leaves - a little
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Method
Soak gram dal, toor dal, urad dal for 1 hour in warm water.
Grind the chilies, salt, asafoetida, curry leaves into a fine paste.
Add the soaked dals, and grind coarsely. 1 or 2 pulses in the mixer should be enough. Take care that it doesnt get mashed. The vadai will not be crispy.
Add the chopped vazhaipoo and mix well. Click here to know how to clean and use vazhaipoo.
Take a small portion of the mix, flatten it in your palm and deep fry.
Serve hot with chutney.
Bon Appetit!!
