Badam Poli

Today is the first day of Navaratri, so obviously something sweet for the occasion is mandatory!! I prepared these tasty poli's with Badam. Poli or Obbattu filling is usually made of chana dal or coconut along with jaggery. This time I tried with Badam and sugar filling and it turned out really well.

Ingredients
All purpose Flour - 1 cup
Salt - a pinch
Turmeric Powder - a pinch
Gingelly Oil - 2 tbsp
Water for the dough
For the filling
Badam - 20
Coconut - a handful
Dates - 10
Sugar - 5 tbsp

Method
Mix maida, salt, turmeric with very little water and knead to a soft dough. Add 1 tbsp oil, knead again and set it aside for 2 hours.
Soak badam in water for half an hour and peel the skin.
Grind all the ingredients for the filling into a fine paste. Dont add water. Add milk if necessary. It should be thick. Roll into small balls.
Take a small portion of the dough, roll into small circles. Place a ball of badam paste in the center, cover with the dough and flatten into a circle with a rolling pin. If the dough is sticky, dab some wheat flour and flatten the poli.
Place a poli in a tawa and when its light brown, dab ghee and cook on both sides.

Im sending this entry to Anu's Cook.Eat.Delicious - Desserts a brain child of Raven

Bon Appetit!!
