Literally translating it means Nutritious or healthy powder. But we always prepare a kanji/gruel of it. Usually its prepared with lots of grains and stuff. But in my place during ekadasi my granny used to prepare this simple sathu mavu to keep her going during fasting times. But I really used to wonder why do people say they are fasting and have all these rich stuff???
Ingredients
Whear Flour - 1 cup
Jaggery - 1/2 cup
Cardamom Powder - 1 tsp
Grated Coconut - 1/4 cup
Method
Dry roast wheat flour in a pan. Keep it aside. Alternatively you can dry roast wheat berries and grind into a fine powder.
Mix the flour with cardamom powder and grated coconut.
Heat water and added grated jaggery, once the jaggery dissolves filter it and mix it with the flour little by little and knead into a chapathi like dough. Again you can either add milk and jaggery or salt and butter milk and drink it like a porridge. If adding salt and butter millk avoid cardamom powder and coconut.
Serve this along with boiled and mashed Sweet Potato.
This one looks like chapathi dough, but with better jaggery the color would differ and be more brownish. Im sending this entry to Vrat Ka Khaana by Kalyani.
Bon Appetit!!
